Z axis stalling

Postby cgriffin » Mon Mar 13, 2017 7:43 pm

What would cause the Z axis to stall? I am getting quite a few Z moves where they don't move at all.
I have tried slow feedrate (300) and faster (1800), and I have also checked it with the motor off, and the motion feels smooth, without binding or crunching.
It is not the same every time even when running without code edits--some come out perfect, others come out short, with a bulge at the skip.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Your Z moves should be G0 moves, to use the preset limit (which should be 300). If your Z moves are too fast, it can stall.

You can also increase the current to the Z motor by adjusting the potentiometer on the spine for the Z axis counterclockwise - 15-30 degrees should be enough, although we do test prints on each machine before shipping, so that should have been set properly.

If you lower the bed, and then raise it up by hand, does it bind on anything? If the Z bearing isn't properly vertical, the table arm might drag on the side of the slot.

Please let me know if you are still having problems.
